    Jeff Shantz

Hi, I’m Jeff. I’m a Computer Science student, working on my Master’s at The University of Western Ontario on a Canada Graduate Scholarship from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC).  I’m working under the supervision of Dr. Hanan Lutfiyya.

    Maggie

I’m a big fan of Linux and Free and Open Source Software (FOSS).  I believe that Ruby puts the joy back into software development. I am excited by virtualization technologies such as OpenVZ, Xen, and VMware, and how they can be used to produce better utilized, more efficient, greener data centers while reducing hardware, maintenance, power, and cooling costs for organizations.  From my experiences designing and implementing a peer-to-peer deployment system at IBM,  I am also fascinated by distributed systems and how P2P technologies can be used for legitimate purposes to deploy content quickly and efficiently.  Finally, I am interested in autonomic computing, self-healing networks, and self-managing data centers.

My wife Kim and I have been married since May 10, 2008.  We adopted a two year old Greyhound/Retriever on January 30, 2009, who we named Maggie.  We live in London, Ontario, and my wife works as a Registered Nurse at a local hospital while her bum husband pursues his studies.

For more information on me, please see my profile at LinkedIn. Facebook is so last fall.

    • @salout_de True, but I didn't claim it was efficient -- just quick and easy. :) In truth, the arrays I'm working with are quite short. 04:37:20 PM March 03, 2010 from Echofonin reply to salout_de
